timing of merc 350 twin 1968

Hello, I have changed out the water pump and impeller, new fuel pump and plugs and the points and condensers on the 35 hp outboard. I would like to time it. According to Clymers Manual, I need a dial indicator and a timing gauge.(not a timing gun!) Are these tools available? The outboard is 38 years old and my local Merc part dept told me they don't carry anything for older units. I tried calling Old Mercs.com and they don't carry many tools. Any help out their? Dave

Hi Dave,
If you haven't messed with the timing linkage, then it is probably still good to go. They don't go out of adjustment unless someone PUTS them out. Basically, if you set the points at .020" 180-degrees apart you should be good to go...
