timing on 50hp

right, got the new belt etc.. can anyone tell me the initial timing setup on a merc 500??? as in the mark on the top of the distributor pulley and TDC marks.?? does the distributor line and the TDC line on the flywheel have to be in line with each other on setup???? or does the distributor line point to the centre of the crank and the TDC mark on the flywheel line up with the TDC mark on the housing????
