The engine runs fine in all conditions, but I just want to make sure the timing is right so I will get the best economy. It is a gas guzzler right now. I have a timing light and have done car engines before. Is there anything special I should know? What is the degree above or below TDC and I heard something mentioned about timing both sides of the engine. Thanks for everyone's previous replys.

Mike

You are going to get a lot of views on how to set max spark advance but no matter how you set it ALWAYS double check it under a load at WOT.

There are a few exceptions but without knowing which heads you have I would go with max advance set at 28 BTDC. If you want to back off two degrees I don't think you will see any difference unless it's on a real light pad bottom boat.

Check it first and see where it is now (loaded at WOT). Your gas issue may lie elsewhere. What kind of top RPM can you get? I know you don't cruise wide open but if you are lugging the motor at WOT you are lugging it at 2500 RPM.

Good luck!
