Re: Timing problem

I am thinking that if it is a 1997 it has the Thunderbolt V ignition vs the IV and needs to be set in base timg mode to set initial timing. Do you know if they did this?

I am not sure if they did.

Re: Timing problem

how old is the gas, should do a new fuel filter, and new oils, And grease up every thing, pull drive off for service also [ect]

fuel is new without ethanol. It has new oils and I have a new fuel filter and will put it on tomorrow.

I would also be checking the knock sensor system to make sure it's working.
Not sure what pulling the outdrive and greasing things up will do to stop pinging under load.

I am not familiar with the knock sensor system. Can I find info online about it?

I had a couple shops on the phone tell me they thought it sounded like the gimble bearing. To me it seems like to much of a coincidence for the problem to start right after the shop timed it.

Thanks

Re: Timing problem

My 95' S10 with the TBI injection 4.3V6 has recently been running on abit after I shut it off when hot, and it's been a bit sluggish too, I just did a spark plug change, and noticed the pass side plugs were kinda wet with gas,,, I'm betting that I have dirty fuel injector, causing gas to leak down on shutoff, I put in some Marvel Mystery oil in the gas last week, and it runs better, Maybe thats your problem as well? A dirty injector!

They say that is some times good for 12v style fuel pump to make them run cooler also. But just a VARRY small amount mixed in with the fuel tank. BUT I HAVE NOT TRYD IT MY SELF SO I DO NOT HAVE ANY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH IT MY SELF, IT IS JUST HEARSAY.:p:rolleyes::D

Re: Timing problem

Been using it myself for 20yrs, in the oil, & gas, it is thin, & low friction, and really wakes up your car,,, It has directions on the can, that you can replace a quart of oil with it, when doing an oil change! It's Not gummy like Motor Honey

One night I put it in my old beater (neglected) 78' Chevelle to clear up a stuck lifter, got to talkin with my folks, and forgot,,, On the 15mile hiway run back home, I was shocked by how much extra power the car had  Then it dawned on me  hey it must be, "The Marvel oil!" :) Took away the lifter noise as well ;) Been using it ever since.

Re: Timing problem

My boat has ran great the last few times out. I am not sure what changed, sea foam maybe? It idles high around 900-1000 RPMs but it has great power and as long as I let it idle for maybe 5 seconds after stopping it has been shutting off perfectly. I really I am not sure what changed. I do now make sure I do not run any ethanol. Thanks for all the help!!
