I have a 1998 mercuries 350 EFI MPI
Engine Serial OL067176
Sterndrive OL153367

I set the timing this morning for the first time thanks to Don S instructions.

I did everything as instructed.

It appeared that every 3rd or 4th engine rotation the mark would miss the tdc. Is that normal or such indicates a problem and/or is it unexperience showing?

I'm headed back to the marina to take it for a test drive and i will post the results. However, if such indicates a problem I rather keep working on it before putting her under more stress

Re: Timing question

They can act strange when in base timing mode. Is the mark just moving or appear to be missing completely? Missing could also be a bad plug, plug wire, or __________

Hi Don,

New spark plugs and wire as well as distributor and rotor.

It appears to move!

Re: Timing question

I went for a spin. She tops at 5200 rpm and sounds great. However, There is a split second of hesitation when I go from neutral to WTO.

I cleaned the throttle body but still getting hesitation.

I mean it's very little and I could probably live with it unless there's an easy fix!!!!

Looking forward to some ideas
