Timing Shaft

i have a 1998 I/O mercruiser 350 magnum. i removed the timing shaft without marking its location. I am now putting it back together and need a little help on where/how to start.

Timing shaft? Do you mean the cam shaft, the distributor or harmonic balancer?

Answers could be in the manuals in the above stickys.

Set no 1 piston to top dead center on the compression stroke and put the rotor button pointing to no 1 spark plug lead on the dizzy cap, turn it back about 20mm as it has a helical gear at the bottom of the dizzy, once its fully installed make sure the distributor rotor is pointing to no 1 spark plug lead on the dizzy cap, also ensure you can turn the distributor comfortably either way to adjust timing. should start now :cool:

hey Black,
should i remove the destributor shaft back out before setting no 1 piston to TDC?

Yes, don't put the dizzy in till you have TDC on the compression stroke;)
