Have a 2004 merc 3.0 , followed timing procedure to the letter . Made up the jumper wires and connected one to Distributor white leads , the other to bypass shifter . Set timing and RPMs to spec , shut motor off and removed jumpers , tried to restart and motor will not run . Put jumpers back in and motor starts runs . Tech says it is stuck in setup mode and to bring it in - 60 miles each way . Has anyone had this happen and di you fix it?? Thanks

What do you mean by "ones to bypass shifter"? You shouldn't need to do anything to bypass shifter to set timing.
