'79 was right around the time they started changing ignition systems. If it has a distributor, drop down about ten posts and see my answer to the post on timing a 75 horse Chrysler. Distributor-less Prestolite ignition is very similar except that the timing adjustment is under the rim of the flywheel and adjustments must be made with the engine stopped. Also you MUST use a timing light and time it to 32 deg before TDC either while running on the water at wide open or using a test wheel in a tank.
