I had some good fortune today to come across more 5052 aluminum than I would ever need. I ended up bringing home 40 sq feet of .080 and a nice piece of .100 around 6 sq feet. FREE.

I had some good fortune today to come across more 5052 aluminum than I would ever need. I ended up bringing home 40 sq feet of .080 and a nice piece of .100 around 6 sq feet. FREE.

Exactly, well not quite you see we have a monster storage building at work that used to be an old road dept shop. Today my boss who knows of my addiction to tin gave me a call informing me of his find. I said I would be right over and he said for me to help myself because it's going to the dump if I don't take it home. Some of it doesn't even have anything printed on the tin.

What more could old and neglected pieces of aluminum hope for more than to become part of a Starcraft boat?

I was tempted to grab it all but left twice as much as I brought home. Only a couple pieces were mauled a little the rest are straight as an arrow. I just scabbed off with the easy to carry small stuff.

Yeah I should have plenty, I only had to cut 2 pieces in order to have 24 hull stiffeners. If anyone plans on doing something similar then invest in a non-ferrous metal saw blade for your table saw. The diablo blade I dropped 46 bucks on cut that 080 aluminum with 2 pieces stacked like butter leaving a super clean edge.

^^^ week's worth of Aluma-agra right there! That did make some nice cuts! Definitely worth dropping some cabbage on the blade considering you got all of that tin for free! :thumb:

I got all the pieces and parts to make me a home made break too. No need to spend on something I can whip up out of stuff I got right here, the only thing I may go buy are some heavy duty hinges.

Got some goodies on the brown truck coming next week too!
