That engine looks in pretty good condition. Should move your rig at a pretty good clip. +1 on what Jason says about the lifting rings.

Yeah the lift ring, I know about the other lift rings but I'm notorious for taking risky short cuts and usually I have good luck ;) ...

I have a bunch of new parts to find and transom rework to alpha one. I forgot about that one... oh well.

With buddies like that, you'll be finished in no-time...as long as you don't get squished by a flying powerplant :p

great progress man, you're a machine!

LOL yeap, that's why you heard me saying don't get under it... You should have seen the stunts I pulled when I was younger. Anyway to make you guys feel better I will chain in up right for the return trip, wouldn't want it to fall through the bottom of my Chief from 10 feet up.

Think I found a place with all the replacement bolts and gaskets in stock too! Anode bolts are 40 bucks??? Glad mine are just a bit crusty and can be cleaned up. The transom rework is pretty easy, just like Willy I have to cut a bit, bore a couple new holes and plug the old ones. Oh yeah and a new horse collar too. All worth it for the upgrade from MC to Alpha.

Dozer had some bolts in the SS201 that were out of sight from Merc, major buckage. I seem to remember he found the equivalent at the H/W store. :D

Thanks for stopping by the lonely Chief thread guys, yeah Sig I've thought about asking to have it moved to the SC forum.

Just got done pressure washing all the grease off the transom mounts from someone who liked to pump lots of grease without the gun being actually attached to the zerk. The motor on the other hand was almost spotless. :joyous:

Donor boat is officially gutted out now. The last things I remember the guy who sold it to me said, "is she everything you hoped" "take her out and have fun" "you can flip her and make some money".

Yeah sure and have the death of a family on my hands... sure. I have a nice poly belly tank to show for my troubles. Looks at the mess I found in this take her out and have fun boat.

That lumber was a 2x10 replacing the forward bulkhead of the bilge or firewall you could call it and screwed into place with drywall screws.

Some cursory measurements on the belly gas tank, 31 x 49 x 8. I have some work to do now on getting the tank to fit in the belly of the Chief. The 8" depth is fine, the 49" length is all good... the width though. At 31' I have to move the floor supports out wider, cut them down maybe and if so re-attach angle on the top. More rivet and tin work! :thumb:

I think that a Mod can move the thread and have it still linked to peoples subscriptions. Maybe a Mod will stop by and let us know.

Yes, not to big a deal especially seeing you still have the glasser to make a template from. I had long since tossed the glass and had to make a cardboard pattern off the transom plate. I agree, time to send that piece of glass off to its final resting place but ya at least got a power plant and nice tank out of her.

I too am guilty of not visiting this section of Iboats too often. Moving your thread to the SC section is not a bad idea. I figured since it was a pretty active place and seems like most of the guys are all tinnies dealing with pretty much the same vintage rigs (not that a lot in the hulls changed too much over a large span of years) that it would be more beneficial to have my thread there where boat specific answers could be had.
