good luck h20, that jb for me worked real well most of the time and the 1 time i had a problem i think it was old sht or something but now you got me thinking maybe mixed wrong.

they caused their fair share of corrosion as well, eating right though the paint to get at the aluminum underneath.

YIKES! Looks like those trim tabs made the hull of your boat a sacrificial anode!

Welcome aboard! Not much cool stuff going on right now, cleaning and painting all the small stuff is just about done though.

Yeah well I was at Wal Mart, saw a couple red tag sale tubes of JB and couldn't resist the savings... Yah so the center of the JB sticks work like they should and I got the repairs done right this time. It turned rock hard rather than being all crumbly.

The kicker bracket that had been on the transom did way worse.

Got the finishing touches on the on the "hole" cabin so today I'm going to flip it, sand and prime the sucker inside and out. 3 holes, really big round holes, like 1/2" or 5/8". Thinking about using some sort of friction plugs to put in those since that's a huge gap to try and fill. I'll get a pic of it later this weekend when it's all primed up.

You know I can't think of what to call the aluminum pieces that ... yah the piece in the pic below with the arrow... that one...(side support tray)

Well I fished those pieces out of the pile for some clean up and I got to remember that someone had left a bunch of rusty iron junk sitting on them. What a pitted mess. I also found the rivets holding the 2 pieces together were all loose and there was a corrosion between them. More wheel action and yeah I did it outside, had some paint drying inside and didn't want the dust.

Thought about doing something to fill the pitting on the pieces but it seemed a bit anal for where they are. So they got wiped down, cleaned up and shot with SE primer.

That was my Friday day off tin fix, more corrosion, sanding, wheeling, priming and painting to come. Forward progress!

Got a much anticipated package in the mail today from Midland MI! Arrived in great shape , thanks a million! The Islander hatch will live on with a new home.

Nice sunny day here too, a bit windy but in the 50's and all the snow got ate up with rain last night.

Hey no biggie, I planed on stripping it down anyway so everythings the same from the primer out. I was however disappointed that it wasn't autographed on the inside. I just feel like a lucky SOB that I didn't have to work something else out for a hatch cover.

Hearing the troubles your having with JB makes me think of this Jeep my dad picked up as a father son type project when I was a kid...

The seller had pretty much used bondo as a glue to patch over rust holes... lol

He had these vinyl pieces glued on, but he just spread some bondo on it, then a dab of hardener and stuck it to the side of the jeep... :laugh:

He was very proud of his bondo work, the way he talked he thought him self to be a pro. :facepalm:

I was about 13 or so back then... and I learned a lot from that fella...

Pealing off his work I realized you really need to mix the crap out of that stuff, as most of his bondo work never cured...

From there on I never had any issues using any epoxy type of a mix, always go crazy mixing. :watermelon:

I just went through my pics again a while back and there are lots of me working in the cold rebuilding my seat frames in the back yard.

It's all worthwhile though when you are out on the water. Summer is just around the corner

Doesn't working in the cold make summer seem like a dream? But when you're floatin' on the lake sweatin' your (insert whatever floats yer boat here) off, the cold days are long forgotten.

Thanks Glen, I've got a giant 2" hole in the transom skin that's needing repaired in a such a manner. I normally use the JB in a stick form for all the little holes, a wad put in there and mushroomed on each side always has worked good for me until this time. Decided I'm going to use removable plugs on a few that look to have been made at the factory, 2 are 5/8" and 1 is 3/4". I may want to use them for a horn and or wires onto the cabin top so it would be nice in the future to just be able to pop the plugs out.

Got the cabin all prepped and primered for painting, this pic shows what a great job they do cutting the tin at the factory. For tin work left to be done, I'm on the last of the dirty, corroded and greasy pieces and this makes me happy. :happy:

Not so fast, only that clean stuff to work on? I wish, next I have the inside of the hull to haul inside so there's some nastiness left to come. You see how many 5/32" rivets that are going to be needed to put that cabin back on... good lord I'm glad I have an air riveter.
