Nice work! I really like the gray nautolex. It's really a good choice w/ the blue topsides

Re: Tin addiction 18' Starcraft Chieftain

Thanks for taking a look and the encouraging words. I have a full week of after work tin fixation on the big list. I have a date with the boom truck on Saturday! Yeah Jas I will chain it up right so as to not punch a hole though the new decking. :heh:

On the 205 V6 I got it pressure washed, the motor mounts cleaned and painted Then the oil changed out, new belts and alternator. I have a good story on the alternator that was corroded up with terminals missing and had the wires yanked out by the PO. I pulled the alternator and removed the screen cover from the back and wheeled it clean. Went to Oreilly's auto parts store with the old Delco-Remy and dropped it on the counter saying I need a new one of these. The guy looks at the serial, looks at me, types on his computer, looks at me again so I say what? He walks around to a display wall and pulls off a box that says 'Wilson' on it. I tell him I don't need a basketball but he opens it up and it's the exact same Delco-Remy with all the right connectors and the serial matches mine. The little 10' wall was their marine section. I cringed waiting for him to say that's gonna be some plastic melting price like 200+ smackers. Nope the guy says that'll be 60 bucks plus sales tax. After I reeled up my dropped jaw I left and put on the new wiring, connectors along with the mesh cover that shields the brushes. I take that as an omen. I hope the rest of the motor and outdrive assembly goes good too.

Good score on the alternator water, sounds like a busy week planned.

I had no idea OReilly had a marine section. Or sold basketballs. :D I know the closest one to me doesn't. But they do have ship to store and a couple day wait would be worth it.

Kind of a goofy set up Water but Yup just three bolts go back in, I asked the same question when I put the 201 back together.

Well the Y pipe is ready to latch onto some exhaust manifolds. But not without a fight. One bottom hole only took the bolt 2/3 rds the way in and had a mushy feeling of "awwww S**T when I hit it with the torque wrench. Felt around and the lock washer spun, yeah that's not good. SO with the help of a bunch of adapters I fashioned up an extension for the tap and chased out the threads, seems the threads weren't cut deep enough and the bolt was trying to do the job. All good now though. :thumb:

That's a horrible feeling H20... I'm glad it worked out and you saved the housing.

Looks like a engine installing weekend???

All set for iron install Saturday unless something drastic comes up. Did a little tonight, got the new grease seal in for the drive shaft and that was a chore even with the right driver tool. New water pipe grommet installed. Installed the bow deck hatch with a SS piano hinge and had to call it a night after some more clean up on the crusty bellows openings. Next up driving the gimbal bearing in the hole.

Last weekend during the forum blackout I got some black Iron on board and the cabin is riveted on the hull. Aligned the engine too, that sure was fun.

For the seal I bedded the cabin in 4200 and put back in the 100+ 5/32" rivets. The original cabin seal was a dry seal of some foam that had long since turned to powder and was a mess not a seal.

Sometimes I think I spend too much of my time here hanging out rather than working on the Chief.
