I just got my tiny tach. It just occured to me that it's not going to be real convenient to unwrap the red wire and unbolt the white wire every time I want to bring the motor into the barn. Winters aren't always that bad here, so I don't want to have the motor put away all winter.

Has anyone successfuly done a quick disconnect at the motor? Will this affect the wiring? It's just thin guage solid core wire. I'm guessing I could cut it and put a connector in line?

I leave mine on year round, of course its warmer down here. Are you using it for something else part of the time?

55Crestliner,
If you research the tiny tach website, you should find that the red wire is of a coaxial structure ( like your cable tv wire) and cannot be fitted with a normal connector (Molex, etc.)

If you drop the Tiny Tach people an email or phone them I've found that they are very good about answering your questions and addressing your concerns. Their website is: www.tinytach.com

Cheers,
Snow.

Re: Tiny Tach

Seems like alot of trouble taking the motor off and on all the time, especially if you have electric start. My boat is ready to go at the drop of a hat. Takes ten minutes to pull tarp off and hook up trailer.

I look at my tiny tach as a tool. I don't moniter it all the time except the first 5 minutes on the water to see what WOT RPMs are. I mounted my tach on plate where the choke knob and mixture screws are. Thats on a 56 30 hp. Also the other reason is the dumb A$$ that ordered the tach forgot to order with extra cable to reach dash is why I mounted on the motor.

My Tach is mounted on the frame that the tiller handle is on (15hp Evinrude) I ordered mine with a shorter wire as it cannot be cut shorter by the end user. I run a 10ft Zodiac so everything is "temporary" including the hull itself.

Cheers,
Snow.

Re: Tiny Tach

The question was asked why I would want to remove the motor - I thought it was better for it to take it off and put it indoors when it's cold and damp out, and when frequency of use goes down. I don't want to take the tach off the boat, I want to take the motor off the boat. Hope that's more clear.
