I've seen the term used time and again but no one does into detail. How is it different from painting my house ( where you cut in and roll) other than the paint used?

Re: Tip and roll?

Thanx Gunner, great tutorial.

Now, what about those areas where the roller won't reach? Do you brush those in (cut in ) then roll and tip the area?

I agree, to bad this forum area doesnt use stickys, i would ask them to sticky it to the top, that is a very good guide.

i give it a /bump for sure

Actually it should go under FAQ, just like how to post pics and how to link sites..... Hmmmmm... maybe I'll write up something for the Mods and see if they will FAQ it.

Re: Tip and roll?

Tipping and rolling a entire boat is a huge undertaking, at least for me anyway's all those angles makes me dizzy thinking about them. Right now im in the middle of shooting brightside's with a very cheap HPLV wagner sprayer.

What i have found so far is really intresting, using the thinner 216 recomended for spaying i get very poor results, however using the 333 brushing thinner i got some outstanding results.

What i was able to get working was mixing 4oz' of 333 to 16 0z of paint and shooting a very thin layer say about 1/4 of the boat then going back and immeditaley reshooting the same area agian very lightly, no sags accoured and the paint leved so superbly i was stunned how well it turned out. The gloss was beautiful, i was so impressed with this paint i am going back and taking out every minor imperfection i can find in the hull

Re: Tip and roll?

That's probably the same gun or tip just in a different format. On the outside of the box it will tell you what types of paint the gun can shoot, if you look at the bottom of that box you will see little yellow boxes indicating the types of paint types that can be used.

Well low res pic's, i need some time to get this camera setup. These pics are the first shot only, i'm really looking forward to see how it finishes after a little 400 grit and the final shot.

At $70 for that sprayer, I would buy one just to spray gel coat. If it gets ruined, just toss it.

Tail Gunner: That looks great! Here's a newbie question for you: How did you paint the bottom of the boat with it on the trailer? I am planning to paint my boat next spring the same way you are painting yours, but I'm not sure how to do the bottom. Especially the parts that sit on the trailer rollers. I have thought of trying to suspend the boat from the garage rafters, but I'm not sure if thats a good idea or not. how did you do yours?
