my dad did that to our boat.. except we were in enough water and just sandy bottom when he did it.. the 77 we have has a bunk trailer so he was used to that for 20 years of his life. the larson has a newer roller trailer. well slipped his mind. and let it go.. didnt hurt the boat at all.. we got lucky

Please dear God I don't find myself in their situation. I'd be straight up on the phone to Seatow or BoatUS to help me out. I was that guy today and bounced skeg on the ramp today because of I thought you did this and I didn't when we needed to trim up before pulling out at the end of the day. Spent a few minutes with a file smoothing out my oops for our next venture out on the water tomorrow. Live and learn...;)

I to have the T shirt. I once unhooked the chain and the winch (on a new 17 foot fiberglass Olympic) because my boss, at the time, assured me he could hold it with a rope. I did have the engine up so no damage there but the boat hit right on the edge of the transom and the keel. Did lots of damage to the fiberglass.

We just winched it back onto the trailer and went home. Lesson learned!

I know. No one wants to see anyone smack up their boat like that but what made the whole situation so funny to me was the writing on the rear window!

Glad for the thread in case I ever get a roller trailer. But I certainly don't understand your sense of humor. Is it that they have hope in a God that makes their misfortune funny?

Amazing how fast a boat will slide off a roller trailer. You would almost think that is what they were designed for !!!! LOL

It will "shoot" off a roller trailer! Especially if ramp is inclined, which of course most are, so don't have anyone walk behind a boat holding a line while you are backing down. This is also another reason you may not want to use those plastic slides or the spray stuff to make a bunk type trailer slipperier.

No question about with boating (especially launching) being that therte is just so many things to remember. It's not like your car where you open door, turn key and drive away. Some use a checklist on launching and retrieving. Others use a walk around like a pilot does before he boards plane.

I still always seem to forget to do something
Like the last time I was out . . . I keep a 3 foot folding ladder in my cars back seat. Makes it easier to jump in and out of boat when de-rigging after I pull the boat back out like when getting the trailerable cover back on and positioning the support poles. So I used it in the staging area at a local marina that I launched at on Lake George and when I came back 7 hours later the ladder was still sitting right where I drove off from and I didn't even know I forgot it. When I came back as I drove up with the boat to this little parking area to start de-rigging I said to myself . . . hey, someone left that nice little ladder and just drove off . . . as I got closer it started to look very familiar . . . oops.

Boating tends to get very expensive when I only have half a brain left :D

That's actually a good point. I guess it's more important to get their message out (especially on a boat ramp) than it is to see what you're doing as you're backing down a ramp with a 2 ton boat.

I even think sailors could even be using their sails to get their personal messages out on all that wasted canvas space . . . Who wants to see mountains, trees, blue skies anyway while boating when I could be reading their personal messages.

A boat ramp could be a great place to hand out leaflets too. I for one appreciate would appreciate that:D
