Hello everyone, I’m a new young boater looking for advice on fixing an outboard motor. I’m also new to this site and am looking forward to being here! I’ve studied internal combustion engines for a while but don’t know much about outboards and have little experience working on engines. I was given by my uncle a 1980’s Sea King 15 Horse by Chrysler 2 stroke that he and my dad used to use before it gave out on them more than twenty something years ago. My dad told me that their fuel mixture wasn’t on point and my uncle said that it overheated when they last used it. The top cylinder has no compression which I discovered a gasket failure. I removed and inspected the impeller after studying some YouTube videos. It seems all I need are a new impeller and head gasket. Does the head need to be filed and machined? I greatly appreciate your time!
