Re: TIPS AND TRICKS

I always unplug my trailer lights before backing down the ramp. Since I started doing this 10yrs ago, haven't had to trouble shoot trailer lights again.

Good thread,

And one more thing.
When replacing Keel roller axels. Axels are about $7.00 each.
Go to electrical supply house or Lowes/Home depot and get a Galvenized ground rod and a hack saw blade. The rods are usually 8 feet long and will make enough axels to do 5 or 6 rollers. Cost about $5.00 For added longevity spray the ends with Galvenized paint.
The cold galvanized rods will far outlast the zinc plated. The zinc just makes them shiney for the sales floor.
Fitz.

For us guys in saltwater its nice to flush the motor right after pulling the boat out before salt dries. I plumbed and valved a 20 gal freshwater tank to the baitwell pump on a 20' flats boat so I could attach a flush hose. This also gives a freshwater rinse down on the gear and boat before everything gets crusty.

I bought an 1800psi pressure washer from Harbor Freight for general boat clean up and now wish I'd done this 20 yrs ago. Man, is it easy. They are only $130. Their 1300psi is about $100 and likely fine for boat cleaning too.

Use lemon Joy dishing soap for best lathering in salt water. Any lemon type soap makes better suds in hard water than non lemon type.

exaust marks on the hull~ if its going to be a long day at the lake/ocean, carry a bottle of joy liquid soad, just slather a thin layer on the stern/quarters BEFORE you go out. when you get in, no marks, and a clean hull.

Re: TIPS AND TRICKS

Check your fire extinguishers at least once or twice every season. Make sure the pressure gauge is still in the green zone and most of all turn the unit upside down, nozzle facing the ground, then tap the bottom a few times lightly with a hammer. The powder that is inside can sometimes stick to the bottom and not come out when it is most needed. This was recommended to me by a fire extinguisher refill company.
Good Luck
PS Check the date on your flares and keep them dry

Easy hull cleaning at end of season.
Go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of GEL toilet bowl cleaner. Wet the hull with a hose, then pour the cleaner into a bucket, and apply it with a long handled car wash brush, you know the thick soft ones.
Wait about 5-10 minutes and rinse it off. Works like magic, and it is not nearly as strong as some commercial high acid based cleaners.

Happy Holidays to all
