Hi all, I have a 1996 four winns horizon with a VP 4.3 liter stern drive.

The manual says in order to check the power trim fluid to remove the nut in the middle of the trim unit and the fluid level should be fill to the level of the removed nut.

The problem is with the layout of my boat and its integrated swim platform I can't even see the trim unit. The manual indicates its mounted on the back of the block which is tucked under and into the integrated swim platform. Assuming I can find the trim unit and remove the nut how would I check the fluid level?

This is a fairly routine maintenance procedure so I must be missing something.

First you must find a way to access your unit. You may have to remove your engine cover or seating .Some units have an opague resovoir that you can see through and some have a dipstick built into the cap. Some squirming and contortion may be involved in getting close enough to it to check or fill it.Are you wanting to check it because it is not functioning properly or making a whinning noise???
