Hey guys just wanted to get any firsthand knowledge about putting my "rebuilt" head back on my MCM170/86'. Already have the Sierra Head Gasket kit, plus have had starter rebuilt and heat exchanger"4 In" cleaned at radiator shop. I have the manual downloaded so I know what Mercruiser says to do, I would just like to here from you actual boat owners any tricks or tips you may have for me. Thanks for your help.

Pretty straightforward, absolutely you have to retorque the head like it says in manual. Better yet do it twice.
You can also use a 460 head gasket,it is I think way cheaper and worked well for me.(There are two kinds old and new and im pretty sure its the old style that fits)

If you don't want to buy a 16 oz can of perfect seal:mad:, you an substitute Permatex (NAPA) aviation sealant. In addition to torquing the head bolts in proper sequence, you need to torque the rocker arm screws in the proper sequence. The manual tells you how. Make sure the pushrods go back into the holes they came out of. Good luck.
