My throttle cable (high idle lever also) is loose so I am about to open the control box and tighten it down. Any tricks or tips? Do I have to watch out for anything in particular? This is the original control box for a 1973 Evinrude. Thanks.

Brad Z

Opened the box - no problem - thanks.

Now my question - the high idle lever doesn't bring up the throttle at the engine enough to make it a high idle. And low idle is too low. Do I need to adjust the throttle cable at the control, at the motor, or do I need to turn the idle screw at the engine? I was able to get out tonight, but as soon as I dropped the high idle lever down, I'd have to shift in and give it throttle to keep it running. Once running, ran beautiful. High idle should be standard idle, and high idle should be faster than what it is.

Thanks.

What's the engine hp and year bazeven? Do ya' have a tach to read the rpms? Yes it could be that the thottle control cable could be mis-adjusted or maybe the carbs need a good cleaning and over haul.

If you could give us the above and also a little maint history, we could probably help.
