tire pressure

I looked on my tires before putting air in them, they were kind of soft, and it says 70 PSI. These are little tires. I have 42 PSI in them now. Is that really correct, should I put 70 psi in them?

This is a boat trailer with a 16 foot Owens Fiberglass runnabout. It isn't heavy like a glaspar.

Thanks. I looked in FAQ and could not find threads but after posting the question found the treads and they support your post. I will do it tomorrow and I have a 200 mile run to the lake and back. It seems scary to have them that high but, what the heck. What is the worse that can happen. Better take some spares along.

If you run those little tires under inflated they will over heat. This can cause a blowout and we all know that?s not good. Inflate to 70lbs.

OK, first light tomorrow before I take off I will bring them up to 70 pounds. Amazing.

The 5.30 x 12" 8 ply tires on my one trailer say 80 PSI on the sides, the only time I don't run them at full pressure is when towing the trailer empty for any long distance to help control bouncing.

Trailer tires generally always get inflated to the max pressure, that's the point where they are capable of carrying their rated load.
An under inflated tire can overheat and blow out as well.

Heck, the tires on my pontoon trailer are load range "E" and carry 90 PSI. I'll bet there isn't a piece of rubber bigger than one inch square if one of those blows out. A few weeks ago I saw a plastic boat trailer fender laying against the median fence along the freeway. A short distance up the road was the reason. The dude had a blow out and it ripped the fender off the trailer.
