Titling

Alright, I'm looking into buying a Marada 1800MVB that was sold as a parts boat. Because of that, there's no title for it, but I will get a notarized bill of sale. Anyone know how I would go about titling this boat in FL with just the bill of sale? Is it even possible? I haven't bought the boat yet, and won't if I can't get it titled

That's probably backwards actually.... they're selling it as a parts boat because they don't have a title. First thing I would do is take the HIN to law enforcement to see if it's hot. Then worry about washing the title.

My uncle already checked it out, and it's clean; he bought the boat with no title, and is selling it to me. He has a bill of sale from the PO that's been notarized and all, but he's not too sure if I can get it titled. There has to be someway, right?

Wouldn't the best place to find out be the place that actually titles boats in your state??? In Illinois it would be the Dept od Natural Resources. They are the ones you have to make happy. Not anyone here on this forum. Find out what they want.

I am from Florida (33 years) the legal answer is "NO"
however it is possible to title it as a "homemade vessel" but that is a gray / black area

yea sounds like you have a first class mess....especially with your uncle involved and never having done the paperwork....best course of action is to have your uncle work on gettnig it titled because the Bill of sale is in his name... so he has to get it legal before he can sell it to you. your uncle and the guy he bought it from need to figure it out....and then its a simple transfer over to you.

If the guy your uncle bought it from is still around he should be able to order a replacement title as technically he is still the registered owner of the boat.

lot of guys here has been there and done that ....in NJ the DMV holds boat titles...if that person behind the computer is not able to enter the required information into that little computer screen in front of them you are just plain screwed....no reasoning in the world will get them to give you a title....

He has a bill of sale, but he never put his name on it, so he would just give that to me. So, it would look like I bought it from the original owners who have now moved out of state and no longer have contact with......there has to be something I can do to make it legal........

You can also go to http://www.broadwaytitle.com/ They can help with titles and a buddy used them for classic car and it worked out well.

I am curious about what your uncle's bill of sale covers--a boat, parts, or what. And what kind of description is on it. If the hull is less than 35 yrs old, there should be a HIN. And if there is an engine, there should be a serial no. Both of these should be traceable.
