2004 Tohatsu TLDI 90hp

What does it mean when all three lights located in the tach (water, batt, oil)
are flashing while the motor is running? there is no buzzer sounding.

Can this be reset?
If so how?

I would recommend a service manual, available at any Tohatsu/Nissan dealer, as these are somewhat more complex than the old 50-1 carb units. You count the flashes to determine what the ECU is complaining about.

To reset the TPS and ECU

1) set the key switch to the on position, disconnect the stop lock switch within one second after the beep stops sounding
2) wait about 5-10 seconds, pull the red knob on the stop switch for about 0.5 seconds, then release the switch.
3) wait another 5 to 10 seconds, again pull the red knob on the stop switch, then release the switch.
4)The sounding of 3 short beeps about five seconds after the knob is released indicates a successful reset of the ECU and TPS, if no beep sounds start over.
Also let me emphasize that I think Tohatsu is trying to sell service manuals instead of giving god after sales in some countries .There are countries that we have a bad after service and thatn instead of Tohatsu makes things easy and provide the owners with service manual they want to sell it.
They business should be selling motors and service them.

Re: TLDI tach lights flashing ??

I'd be prepared for a recurrence of the flashing lights. I had the same symptoms on my 2003 90 tldi a few years ago, and after getting the shop manual, I found I had a low voltage problem. After a little more troubleshooting, I found water had gotten into the key switch.

Point is, with the manual you can see what these flashing lights mean and act accordingly. For instance, if you had the manual you could see what combination of lights and gauge readings indicate a faulty spark plug at cylinder one, two or three. Now you've already spent more on spark plugs than you maybe didn't need than the manual would have cost.

If I disconnected the battery on my 2010 model 50hp TLDI for a short while will this procedure be needed?

Re: TLDI tach lights flashing ??

This should not be added to a 2-1/2 year-old thread... BUT... FYI, you would refer to any Tohatsu/Nissan outboard by actual model, not year, as some models are made for several years, and some years would cover more than one model. I'm guessing you have an MD50B2 or NSD50B2... No, you do not need to reset the TPS after replacing the battery. It won't hurt anything if you do. However, it is mandatory that you use a 1000-amp battery. Are you experiencing any malfunctions or symptoms?

Thanks, I went out on it yesterday and it ran fine with no warning signals, apprently a battery dissconect is not a problem and was told that only low voltage would cause a problem. I went ahead an did the reset steps anyway just to be sure. Thanks again your help.

Yes it is an old thread. You really should start a new one.

However... If you don't get the 3-beep confirmation of TPS reset, it has not been reset. Pay very careful attention to the timing of when to remove the stop clip, and when to pull out on the stop button, and for how long. If you are still unsuccessful in resetting the initial position of the TPS, you may have a connector or TPS problem. Full info is in the Factory service manual, which is a wise investment for any outboard motor.
