Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

The wood is pine... "quality" or better... As hard as I tried to find good sections of pine thats as knot free as possible... It got hard, specially when goin with some 12" widths.

Things have been busy around here... both my grandparents (fathers side) wound up in the same hospital, few rooms apart this week, one for heart, and the other for Ruptured anurism (sp)

Through it all I find getting the saw out a good way to cope with all that is goin on... so heres frame #4
Absolutely Dave, hobby work is very much cathartic and healthy. I hope all is well with the family. :)

Wimp, another good way to build a test tank is to take an old heating oil tank and cut out one of the top corners. It makes for an easy place to attatch a transom board and you can run the motor in forward without spilling everywhere. That's what a bunch of the backyard mechanics around here do.
Eric

Hey Pony did I miss something on that tri-hull???

Just wonderin...lol

Test tank Idea those are good... and here I went out and bought a $22 trash can to fit the 115 in... good thing about that.. I could leave it on the boat.. bad part was I spent $22 on a trash can...lol

only reason I want something differant than a trash can is so I can mount the motor too it... I mean a small outboard. Small = I can lift it onto the test tank. :D

An old utility sink would be good maybe. Has a drain and holds plenty of water. It would be easy to attach to a rolling motor stand with it's square shape. Remove the legs of course.

Wimper, there is a motor salvage place in MN called Twin City Outboards. You can google it and get their number. They are supposedly the largest antique outboard salvage yard on the planet. In case you're looking for hard to find parts...

I'm riding shotgun then Wimper! :D

How many frames total Dave? What's your secret? I mean how DO you do that without templates?! I can tell the profile of the hull already just by seeing the frames. Pretty cool :)

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

speaking of which, anyone know where to get a cheap wooden ships wheel? :D I'm gonna mount it sideways inside the camperboat... chair center, controls on the right side and sideways ships wheel on the left so no moving console.

That's actually a cool idea Wimper. I've driven forklifts with a similar setup, it works nice if its ergonomic.

These 'Destroyer' wheels are sold right here on iboats. Some are dished some are flat.
