Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

Thanks eric. My teeth are chattering from the strain of no internet today... I feel the need to post about a hundred times in a row. Yes Iboats can become an addiction. It sneaks up on you and when you have to do without... shudder!!!

Stash some of that cotton for yourself Tracker, it might make good resin filler :D

lol calico if you dont mind... when you added insulation, how did it mix? did it stay together and come out like a big booger? did it seperate and become stringy? or did it melt and become thick and fluid like?

FYI, I belive this is the longest post in Iboats history. The old record was 1008 if I remember correctly.
And I'm still shopping for wood! :(

Any of you thinking about PL-Premium? Or the concrete PL?

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

I've thought about PL Paul lol, I was tempted to use it in the dug.

Wimper I didn't mix the insulation into the resin. I stuffed it into the gaps and formed fillets with dry insulation then wetted it out. Insulation won't dissolve but it becomes clear just like fg cloth when wetted. I had to poke and push at it in thicker spots to get it soaked.

I used the white formaldehyde free insulation, it pulls apart easier than the pink or yellow formaldehyde binder insulation does and I don't think the pink or yellow would wet out as nice and would probably remain yellow or pink after it is cured.

I didn't really save anything by using insulation instead of a proper filler which is pretty cheap. I just did it because I could. As a filet filler it worked pretty well, as an adhesive filler I would have to go with something proven :)

Hey Wimper,
I've got a lot of parts and pieces for the 7.5/9.8hp Mercs. Let me know if you need anything for them...
Scott (csr112-n@prodigy.net)

Still no wood...been getting chilly here so I decided that I would finish up getting the other boat ready for winter... thats done... but since I still don't have wood... I decided I would build in the microwave in the camper.... anything to keep me goin...lol

Record huh?... I'm sure the old one wasn't held by a bunch of rednecks trying to build boats, or templates as some like to do mlm :D
