Definately epoxy. That's the dilemma Wimper, if I square it off it won't row as well, if I leave it round it won't plane fast. This is a long river and speed is important when covering distance so I'm favoring planing ability at this point. Maybe I need two? :D

perhaps removeable chines? lol

I'd say if your making it for a motor, then go all the way with it. make it flat across the stern.. if you want to row/sail/small motor then i'd say build it as per the plans. just my opinion of course.

I agree with Wimperdink. If you have it motorized, a squared transom will do good.

I decided to post my jonboat plans. Its very easily made, and you can tweak the measurements if you like.
I really left that part open- you could do anything you want. I would use stich and glue

Here is my other project. Basicly, its my jon boat design modified to create two pontoons. Then add 3-4 2x10's between the two and screw down a sheet of ply. Use stich & Glue for the pontoons.
coleman... I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, your lil 3 hp evinrude is gonna need some help pushing your pontoon over the 2 mph mark :D

p.s. round the bottom of your jon boat a lil bit so there's not such a sharp transition between bow and bottom.

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

Thanx for the suggestions wimper. I figure I would have to get at least a 8 maybe even a 15 to push it. Thaks for the jonboat idea.
