To clean a gas tank?

Is there a solvent or cleaner out there gfor plastic tanks to make sure they are not contaminated?<br />Also metal omc tanks reuseable after the cleaning or invest in new tanks?

Did a lot of yaking on another forum about cleaning old fuel tanks on farm tractors and the guys in the know used plain household vinegar. Filled her up and let her sit for a few days then sloshed it around as you poured it out. I never did it but they said (several they's) they have done it successfully several times.<br /><br />HTH<br /><br />Mark

I cleaned my plastic tank last year. Drained fuel, rigged up a brush on narrow diameter pole and scrubed with Dawn dishwashing liquid and water. It's clean. My tank is translucent so it was easy to see the dirty spots and inspect after cleaning.

Clean or dirty make sure that you have a water seperator/fuel filter.
