ridesapaint, are you lifting the frame by moving the axles from underslung to overslung?[/QUOTE]

I am thinking of just replacing wheels and fenders with larger ones, but i havent thought about changing the spring to axle connection. Hmm...

I've found axles for $550 with shipping or for $600 at a local shop, and that's for both 3500lb. axles with electric brakes, springs and u-bolts. I just have to make sure that I get the correct hub to hub measurement, spring center is a no problem measurement. I might purchase the fenders today and then I will for sure know if I can use the current hub to hub measurement without tires sticking outside the fenders.

I am not sure. I am thinking of using larger wheels and fenders, but have not thought about moving the springs to above the axle. I have a couple months to work it out.

If you can afford it, I'd just replace it with a new roller trailer. In my experience a boat with trailer problems/shotcomeings is a boat that doesn't get used and enjoyed as much as it should.

I think you mentioned this, but the lighting needs to be upgraded on the trailer. Looks like the trailer is setup with lighting for under 80" wide loads.

Well I searched around on the light requirements and found out that I'm illegal. There's no Rear identification lamps and clearance lights are missing. If anyone wants to know regulations on trailer lighting here's a website that I found: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/Cars/rules/standards/conspicuity/Trlrpstr.html#trlr6

I just got an awesome, make that superawesomehumangus deal. Brand new surge brake axles with brakes for $199 each. I'm not sure how this place is doing it but that's by far the best deal I've found. I almost bought the electric brakes but decided not to, mainly because a lot of people are frowning on the idea of putting them on a boat trailer. The place is around 3 hours away so I can go pick them up with my car at a fraction of the cost that it would cost them to be shipped. It should be around $30 for gas, that is just awesome. The place is R and P carriages and they have an amazing 22,000 feedbacks with 100% on ebay.

Well, still waiting on axles but it was warm enough outside today that I actually did some work. I made my new light assemblies, they are super bright yet they only uses .9 amps at 12 volts for all 6 lights.

I thought I'd show the progress I've made so far....New Axles, new tires, new cross braces, extended... Tomorrow I have to take it to a friends shop to finish welding the center cross brace hangers (my little flux core welder will only safely weld to about 1/8"). I used some Rust-oleum cold galvanizing compound to see how well it works, and it worked OK. I do plan on covering the trailer with the cold galvanizing and then topcoating it with the Rusto's Hammered paint. I also moved the tandem back a foot to add more weight to the tongue. Here's a few pictures:

Before with new axles and then the new setup:

Re: To fix or to replace? Shoreline trailer.....

I used to have that same trailer, the original axles were made from two pieces of angle iron welded together, from day one. The brake flanges rusted off in two years, there were no signs of the brake flanges when I finally sold the trailer. I tossed my brakes after the third set rusted solid in two years.
The frames are great though.
Mine came with four bunks when new, I converted to rollers. I made my own roller quad mounts and set it up to carry a 24' Sea Ray.

When using that cold galvanizing spray, make real sure that the metal is clean and free of any oil, and be sure to soak the inside of the tubes as well, that's were the rust will start. You may want to ad a drain at the lowest point too.
Don't be afraid to really lay that stuff on either.

Another option may also be to see if there's a local galvanizing place nearby, it's usually not too expensive if they are running a batch and have room for a few small items.

Re: To fix or to replace? Shoreline trailer.....

I have taken an older LoadRite trailer that was setup for a 23ft deep V with twin 200HP outboard engines on it. It's rated for 6000#. I got it CHEAP & the hydraulic brake system was rusted beyond repair. So I stripped everything off of it including the rollers, complete brake system including the wheel bearings. I found on CL a guy who was selling parts off of a pontoon trialer he was dismanteling instead of selling the whole trailer & I GOT A DEAL. I bought nearly new 20.5X8X10 tires & wheels, springs mounted on adjustable slides, heavy duty "V"s, cross members to mount the "V"s on, pontoon boat bumer & winch that was nearly new, trailer lights, & all the "U" bolts to bolt everything on my trailer. Everything he had was for 3X4 galvanized channel which fit my frame perfectly. He even had a set of fenders for the trailer that fits the 20.5X8X10 wheels & tires. I am changeing out the 6000# springs for the 3500# springs & installing everything I bought. I paid $350.00 for the LoadRite trailer, another $200.00 for all the other stuff off of CL. The only thing I am going to change is the length of my tongue as it is a little too short to suit me. It's 7ft long now & I will change it out to an 8ft tongue.

Not sure whether to go with electric disc brakes or hydraulic disc brakes. Any information from people who have used the electric ones would be appreciated. I already have an electric controler on my truck so just trying to figure out which is the best way to go. I will not be in salt water at anytime with my boat/trailer.
