Re: To Fog or Not to Fog F150?

how long is to long for a four stroke with stable marine to sit without being run? i plan to use mine about once a month in the winter. we useually have a warm day now and then here in northwest florida. it's going to be 77 and sunshine today! even when it's coldest in jan. & feb. i try to at least get out on the river. thanks, joe...

Please try and stay on topic with threads, it would be best if you started your own regarding your question. But I would think once a month is fine.. You also my want to run Yamaha Ring Free additive.... but again that another thread subject...

Peace out!

Re: To Fog or Not to Fog F150?

Thanks for checking that rodbolt.

So after all the F150's fluids are changed oil, (via vacuum not draining), lower unit oil is changed, and all fittings lubed etc.

In this order I then do the following.

1: Drain fuel cup and fill with mix.
2: Drain VST and fill with mix. (how do I fill the VST? my remote tank does not have a primer bulb)
3: Run engine on muffs with remote tank mix for 10-15 min @ what rpm?
4: After the fogging run I leave the fuel mix in the VST and cup all winter.

When you say " DO NOT run F150 on a flusher at 1500 rpm's for 15 min" your talking muffs correct? Is this because it will not provide enough water pressure to cool the F150 at this rpm?

So I understand fully, filling the VST and fuel cup pre-fogging run on the F150 is to assure the mix gets distributed, due to running the F150 for 10-15 min only burns ~ 1/4 gal of mix.

I appreciate your wisdom and patience with this rodbolt, I just want to protect my engine, and make sure I do this correctly.

Hey rodbolt,

So it looks like I need a primer bulb to fill VST's?

What do you think regarding my other questions. (rpm's, flushing, leaving cup and VST full over winter, and such)

Thanks dude,

thats the whole beauty about modern EFI, if left full and the fuel is treated its a fairly well sealed system that doesnt allow air in, unless you drain it.
air makes fuel go nasty faster.

Re: To Fog or Not to Fog F150?

What is the max rpm I can run remote mix on muffs, and how long should I run it?

How do I fill VST with mix before I run the F150?

well, someplace on your existing engine there is a primer bulb, simply use that one.

Man I feel like an idiot asking these questions, I guess I'm sorta relying on you rodbolt for more specifics, sorry man, I just want to do this correctly is all... So okay I use my F150's primer bulb on my remote tank. And this will fill the VST and fuel cup as I now understand. 99yam40 did state that earlier, I guess I was waiting for your confirmation regarding that..

The other question I have is regarding to flushing the engine, You said

" DO NOT attempt to run the F150 on a flusher at 1500 RPM for 15 min " As the Mercury EFI bulletin states

So what is the correct rpm to run on muffs/flusher? Or is idle fine due to cup and VST filled with remote mix via primer bulb.

Thanks you so much for all the information your brain contains dude...

once the filter cup and the VST is drained then refilled with the storage mix it only takes 5 min or so at idle to protect the fuel rail, fuel cooler and fuel pump asys.

Thanks rodbolt,

I'm gonna look in my FSM to see how to drain the VST. If It doesn't tell me, that may be my final question on this thread... Thank god right!

there is a pink drain hose, follow it back to the drain valve, loosen that valve a few turns but DO NOT remove it.
then look up the VST a few inches, you will see a rubber plug with a tab on it, pull it out.
use a blunt instrument and depress that schrader valve to allow air into the VST as the fuel exits or it takes a long time to drain.
