surfing kijiji today and saw this set up for sale $1200. boat for sale.JPG, heres the ad.....(I have a 1974 Hand Crafted Mahogany Boat for sale. It is equipped with steering wheel and throttle controls. There was originally a 20HP Mercury on the boat but it will hold up to a 40hp. The entire boat is made of mahogany, the top is stained and the side and bottom are painted white and blue. This boat is in great shape and just needs a motor. It would also make a great project boat if you wanted to sand down the paint and bring back the stained mahogany finish. The boat is in great shape with no rot whatsoever.
If you have any questions or would like to view, please feel free to email.....)

so i respond to the ad with a plan...." whats the bottom line price?". response was $950. so then i put my plan into gear! "whats the price without the trailer??"......response.....that is the price of the boat, trailer was never part of the sale.
its a cute little 12 foot boat, i looked at it before i saw the ad, could it be worth $950 ? i was thinking $400 would be top dollar!

it's really hard to say a price for a boat like that--they are rare, look great, fun to work on and run, impractical and marginally functional. if it's as good as he says it is, I'd say his price is OK and yours is low

Around here beat up 12-14ft aluminum boats go for more than 400 w/o a trailer and are a dime a dozen. With a trailer 1000-1200 is the norm for a crappy boat.

Yeah, that's cheap for that boat. If its in good condition, you should grab it. Try building one today out of mahogany, just the material for that size boat would probably be 3 grand.

Yep, mahogany isn't cheap. It's probably worth $950 in reclaimed mahogany alone..

OK, cut to the chase, "hand crafted" means "homemade", and that's what makes it worth $400.

It's all supply and demand. Right now there is no demand.

This morning I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 16' mahogany 1960's Cruisers, Inc. with a trailer that looked like new and a recent 40 HP motor - $1200 for the whole package. Last week I saw a similar 18' Thompson for $2400. Both were garage kept since new and the 50 year old trailers looked like they just came out of the showroom.

That's a matter of opinion I guess. Working on my woody keeps me going. When Dad had one in the 1950's it wasn't impractical, so what's different now? Ditto it was fully functional back then, and it works just as well now.

Where is Oak River Grove? I need to load up several nice 12-14ft aluminum boats here in Texas for $125 to $300 each on a uhaul and make a killing!
my sales pitch will be " No Title- No Problem !" LOL!

Old Classics are rarely worth much . The value is to whomever LOVES it!

Fox River Grove is an hour and a half North and West of Chicago, near the Wisconsin border, probably the busiest chain of lakes I have ever been on.
FWIW - I picked up a 1975 14' lund with a trailer and a good running Evinrude 50 Sizzler in this area for $500 about two years ago.

where I am my bud sold a 14 foot cedar strip with a 40 merc last year for 5500.00 also classed as homemade.mine I wouldn't even talk for less than 2 without a motor and more with.problem is there's not many people in this area that want woodys even though I get tons of compliments that does not translate into cash.up here I believe that the op,s boat would fetch the 950 easily enough.
