To paint or not to paint

I've got a delima.<br />1) I don't really care for the cream and brown 27 year old gel coat<br />2) I'm going to be reinstalling the stringers and floor and will be laying new floor covering and installing new seats and like blue and white better (don't relish installing cream and brown scheme)<br />3) I can see worn out gel coat on the bottom and may need to install a keelgaurd type of product<br />4) I've burned out doing all the grinding and don't relish (or know how many hours of work would be envlolved to sand and paint, or cost)<br />

<br /><br />Aside from not looking good, is the scraped hull something I should do something about that the keelshield approach can't take care of? It doesn't leak.....yet.<br /><br />Here is where I'm at so far:<br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/manageProject.php?p=223

Just get yourself a orbital inline air sander ,Sherwin Williams has them and there a god send. Now if you cant afford one of them try a staight in line pneumatic one there only about $60.00, trust me here they reduce labor times by huge amounts and really get a flat smooth surface.<br /><br />Painting with Interlux say brightsides is relativley inexpensive (in relation to stringer reconstruction) say maybe $200.0.<br /><br /> It's all pretty straight forward, very few surprises supplies are cheap and can be done in 4/6 days. Its all or i sure its all down hill compared to stringer floor deconstruction and reconstruction.......... <br /><br /> During my reconstruction i started sanding or smoothing the exterior as a means to keep my sanity, for one i was in control.....a needed distraction.....

I hear you there. I started out with a great deal of exuberance and finished the grinding part with a "I don't think I'de ever want to do that again". Time heals all, we'll see if I really remember the pain. With regard to the keel, do I need to do anything special with that? Do I need to do a primer coat before I apply the finish coat? This is a trailer stored boat that will see weekend fishing trips.

There is a gentelman (@ least i assume hes a gentleman) Named ondarvr i would trust his advice, with that said i would seal the glass form exposure....that is what undermines the glass integerity.What i my self did was shoot some in the can bedliner on it (white) and am going to see how that holds. If it doesnt fair well then a keel gaurd is next.

Tail Gunner -- where did you find white truck bed liner? I've looked for it but have only found black.
