Next three vintage outboards in my pile that are up for nomination to restore or part out:

Johnson 5hp Seahorse model 939142

Montgomery ward 1945, 5hp model #54GG-9011, by Gale

1954 Lauson 6hp, model T-653-R, Hart Carter Corporation

All motors are complete minus gas cap on the lauson, haven't checked engine condition and spark yet. The Lauson looks pretty cool. Are any of these worth the time to restore for resale? Which would be a good bet to fix up and use on a small aluminum boat?

those Gales are great motors, what year is the seahorse, they are good as well. dont know much about the Lauson.

not sure the year of that gale, I just finished tearing apart a 54 hiawatha that had a gale, so maybe some interchangable parts here. I am tearing down the lauson now and just pulled the flywheel, so far it is looking like parts.

the air cooled lauson's were only made for a couple of yrs b4 being sold to Tecumseh. im sure someone on here has owned or worked on one.

well, turned out the Gale on that MW was seized up pretty bad. I did get a good carb and coils off it, and the prop was in good shape.

The Lauson is relatively uncommon, borderline rare. Doesn't make it valuable, just an oddity. I have a couple of singles in my collection. Nice runners and you can run them "dry" if you like (air cooled). Drives the coots at the boat ramp nuts as they warn you about tearing up your waterpump!
