To the guy who cut in front of me at the dock

Saturday night, Joe Pool lake, state park marina, just after sundown, I'm idling up to the dock in my old bass boat, maybe 2 boat lengths away when a big 'ol I/O runabout with about 8 small children & 2 grownups goes past close and cuts right in front, drops Mom off on the dock and throws it into hard reverse and angles out of my way. I said sarcastically, "nice move," and "no problem, go right ahead." You just looked over and smirked.

After thinking about it, it was a pretty good move, considering that the courtesy dock is pretty small with half of it choked off by hydrilla and a couple other boats already moored, plus which I have to tie up there while I get my truck and you just needed to drop off. And, you did it without causing me to alter my course or speed. Sure did cut it close, though, not to mention it being a no-wake zone.

I just wanted to say sorry, I shouldn't have smarted off like that, had I seen you coming up behind me I would have waved you around. But I do wish you would set a better example for your kids.

Well, probably no need to apologise too profusely. If he had given proper signal to you indicating that he was going to pass maybe... Plus, it's still his responsibility to keep WELL CLEAR. Seems a lot of boaters don't know what this means. Of course, I'm pretty sure that most boaters have never read the rules of the road and are totally unqualified to be behind the wheel of a boat in the first place.

Sounds like another time when a 50 cal. mounted on the bow would come in handy.

Yeah I did Steve but I was thinking about the little inflatible the CG uses to guard the cruise ships around here. Everytime I see it I think about how nice it would be to have that big *ss gun mounted on the bow sometimes, especially when drift fishing while being buzzed by jet skis.

Hmm... I'm thinking that painting your boat red with a big, white, diagonal stripe would go a long ways toward discouraging bad behaviour by other boats...

Maybe the wife was nagging him pretty hard, and would have done anything to get her out of the boat.

Hmm, wonder what it would take to make a mock up and would the guys with the real guys use you for target practice..

Personally, I would settle for a mini gun.

From what I got out of the story.............I'll go with wife nagging. Gotta give him a little slack for that and give him props for making the drop off happen so fast. ;) :D

You got more class then most bro.

It reminds me of the the 2 motorists who headed into each other once on a one lane road:

There wasn't room on the road for one to go around the other, and One driver says to the other in front of him, "I never back up for fools".

You remind me of the other driver who said, "I always do".

I applaud you, and would be happy to share Joe Pool lake and it's ramps with ya, fair wheather or foul.

You handeled that situation better than I would have......

You are correct, people do act totally different when you pull up with an M-60 or 50 cal on board! I was a coxswain on a 25' TPSB (Boston Whaler) with either a 50 cal on the bow or an M-60 (the machine gun that rambo carried), also we had an M-60 on either side on the stern. Yea we had the blue lights, but the guns did alot more. The people in Boston after 911 didn't quite know how to act when we would pull up or drive by them. Oh, I was in the Coast Guard, thats how we where able to drive around with that type of a boat.
Weedy
