Hello everyone
A friend of mine has a tohatsu 25hp that is in good condition with good compression
model is M25A2
We had a problem in the coil and it completely died, so we got another secondhand coil due to no new coil availabilty.
this worked for a few weeks then that too packed up due to old age etc.
the original coil was a one piece coil with the 2 sparg plug leads comming out of the single unit.
There is just 1 wire that goes to the coil from the cdi pack.
so we had nothing , but then we decide to fit 2 single coils we had lying around that we know are good.
We rigged them up,using the 1 single wire to the first coil, and a jumper lead from that wire to the other coil.
Now the engine runs fine, gives a good idle, and seems to be making top speed no problem.
We have since heard about double firing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As we have been told that using 2 coils running from the one lead will be giving a double spark,
as in 1 spark before btdc ,as normal, and another spark when piston is travelling down.
This would happen as the 2 coils are sparking at the very same time !!!!!!!
is this going to cause engine destruction in any way ?
is there another method of using the 2 coils,or do we need to find a similar double acting coil that
uses just the one wire from powerpack like the original.
please help before we do any damage to this good old engine
