I have a one year old Tohatsu 30 (FS30EP) fitted to a Shetland. When I bought the engine the dealer offered electric tilt but it did not seem worth the extra. Our engine has no assistance on tilt and it is a bit of a grunt when lifting, however when looking through the manual over another matter (another thread!) I notice there is a gas assistance option. Can this be retro fitted? Also when down the engine is manualy locked for reverse whereas my previous Mariner was free to lift if you grounded and locked when reverse was selected. Is this normal on these engines?

Re: tohatsu 30 tilt

It would be possible, but not economical, to retrofit the motor to gas assist tilt. The gas cylinder requires the bracket bits that are used on the PTT model.
