Symptoms: Our old (11yo) Tohatsu 4HP engine starts easily and runs fine unless we enter choppy waters. Then it stalls and cannot be restarted for a long while (several hours). When pulling the cord, it sputters for a 2-3 seconds then stalls again. Gas is visible in the gas filter.

Done so far: cleaned the carburator, changed the gas filter, added fresh gas, changed the oil, new spark plug.

Is it a case of old age / time to buy a new one?
Any pointer will be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

Choppy waters...................water into carb intake could cause long delayed re-start, remove plug and drain cylinder, re-start in calm conditions or barrel, if runs ok for than most likely was problem..............Don

Also possible that water has splashed into the vent, getting into the fuel line.

Make sure every bolt and screw is tight on the electrical parts...Might be jolt causing a connection issue.
