I have a new 6 hp (10 hrs) It runs great at low rpm but when I open the throttle, it bogs out and doesnt rev over half throttle. Any additional throttle make more noise but doesnt rev up. Sounds like it is starving for gas. Any ideas?

You have a 3 year warranty. What does the servicing dealer say?

I took it to the dealer and he stuck it in a barrel and said that he was limited to 1/3 rpm bcause the of the barrel. He said it ran good at that rpm and gave it back to me.

What are you trying to push

For example on my 4Hp 2 stroke without going to a small prop it will not reach full RPM pushing a 24' sailboat ;)

I would think a dealer would have test wheels to allow it reach RPM in a test tank

Take it to a different dealer. In a 55 gallon drum you can wind the engine up to about 3/4 throttle. It's a little messy though as you will get soaked. There was a time when most dealers actually had real test tanks, but today most use drums. The symptom could indicate improper pitch, as Tommays indicated, or there may be a problem with the engine itself. You can either start buying propellers to see if you have an application issue, make arrangements for a different test run or you can begin randomly repairing repairing things that aren't wrong.

Sounds like a problem with the engine rather than a prop issue. How long from when you first ran the engine(date of purchase?) to today?

One last question and then I will tell you what is wrong......Nahhh. I'll tell you now. you have a dirty carburetor. You haven't been running the gas out of the engine and over a period of time you have clogged up the orifices in the carb. Get the carb cleaned(not warranty) and from now on disconnect the engine gas line from the engine at the end of each use and then let the engine run until it stops on its own.

Huh. I went through the pains of a dirty carburetor on my 2005 Tohatsu 9.8 four stroke after the first year I owned it, even after I ran the engine dry of fuel at the end of the season. My Tohatsu dealer (Olympic View Marine in Everett, WA) said the theory has changed, and to run a fuel stabilizer through it at the end of the year, leaving the treated fuel in the engine during the winter.

Treated fuel does not lose octane like untreated fuel....Your problem is that the fuel in the carb evaporated leaving residue....Treated fuel does not prevent evaporation....Therefore, always run the fuel out of your engine and when possible, open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb to get out the last few drops.
