Hi Guys. First time I post, so please be gentle.:D

I have a '03 M60C on the back of my tub which has been great over the years. I have always looked after it and serviced it regularly, and in turn it has looked after me. Last weekend was drama city though.

I was just putting along at about 1500RPM towing a couple of lures around some headlands when the motor just stopped! No coughing or spluttering or any kind of misbehaviour....just stopped dead. I tried to start it with no joy. I checked what I could whilst on the water, (fuel, water in fuel, that sort of thing) but had to bite the bullet and call Marine Rescue to tow me back to the ramp.

When I got home I did some rudimentary testing and found that I had no spark. I checked the kill switch and that seemed fine. I figured that it was the CD unit. But when I spoke to some other guys, they suggested that it could be other (read cheaper) things that could have gone wrong. I have been told that the Tohatsu has a very robust CD unit and it would be the last thing to go wrong.

Now seeing as I haven't worked on an outboard in that much detail before now, I was hoping I could get some advice and what to check/test, and how to do it. I have a fairly competent understanding of motors, and wouldn't mind having a look see before I pass it on to a professional.

Thanks for any help that may be offered.:p
