Hello folks,
I am working on a 2004 Tohatsu 70 TLDI engine. I have all of the diag equipment for Honda, Brp, mercury, mercruiser, suzuki and yamaha. I use BRP diagnostics as well as diacom.
Anyways, I do not have a way to plug up to this darn tohatsu.
Fuel pump died so I put a new fuel pump in. Now the motor runs but it was idling terribly. Rust was in the fuel rail so I had the air and fuel injectors cleaned out. I re-installed them with all new orings. New spark plugs were installed and compression was all in the 120/125 range. The fuel is fresh and the fuel filters have been replaced.
Fuel and air pressure are spot on from what I can tell. Air pressure is 78 and fuel pressure is 88. Im guessing that like the optimax motors, there is supposed to be a 10psi differential between the two systems.
I have indexed the flywheel and there is no cross-firing and the timing is solid and not skipping around.
This motor has the two position TPS where you can have the motor idle down for trolling by pushing the key in. It will not run hardly at all when the idle is set at the lowest position (TPS 2)
I cannot get this motor to idle while in gear. It will idle sporadically when in the water in neutral, then when you pop it into gear it will shut off after a few seconds.
Without being able to get an ecu readout or some kind of parameters I feel lost. I am looking for some guidance or where to get aftermarket software for tohatsu support without getting the meds software ($1600+). I simply do not see enough tohatsu engines in my shop to warrant the cost.
Thanks!
