Tohatsu M18E2 2005. It used to start 1st time and ran perfectly for past 2 -3 years.

Didn?t use it for about 14mths and like a fool tried to start it with the (old) fuel still in the tank. Suffice to say it would not run... so bought new fuel. But made a another mistake and purchased gasohol (fuel colors have just changed here in Thailand). This time would start, but would not run.

Bought correct fuel - 91 unleaded. Cleaned filter, cleaned carb, cleaned out tank, fuel lines. Started eventually and would idle ok, but as soon as hit the gas it would stall. Tried adjusting the carb screw but must have totally messed settings up as now it won't start??? Any clues? Thanks.

I would disassemble, inspect, clean, and adjust the carb. In the future, be 100% certain you run the carb dry at the end of each day.

The 18HP mix screw comes generally factory adjusted to 10 mm height measured from carb base to upper screw, can re adjust using a Vernier tool. Remove both plugs, pull cord 2-3 times to let gas cocktail mixture inside cylinders out. Clean plugs, check that both plugs fires up before placing back into engine. Re check carb as recommended by Paul.

Other cause, probably engine is picking air from gas connectors when giving gas, internal o'rings do wear out, the issue is that are not available as spare parts, a real crime. If all tech previous recommendations are correct, test with a new fuel line Good luck and let us know for the book if managed to solve the problem.

Happy Boating
