Hey Gentlemen!

I just bought a 1990 Glasstream 15.5 ft bass boat that has a 90 Tohatsu outboard! I am trying to figure out why, when I connect power to the boat, the alarm sounds in the shifter box, without the key in it? When I then put the key in, I have to turn it to the acc. and the alarm gets quieter! Upon trying to press in and turn for the ignition, I get nothing! All sounds stip, and the motor will not turn! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be!

I take it you have an M90A, right?
Did you connect the battery backwards?
Is the battery nearly dead?
There isn't any accessory position on the switch, only Off, On, and Start.
You do understand that pressing in is supposed to engage the electric choke, right?
Is your switch maybe damaged, allowing you extra positions?

Well! I did say I was new to Tohatsu, not electonics! The only way I would be mistaken is if they wired it like my triumph motorcycle, and it has a positive ground rather than a negative! But seeing as how when I hook it up properly, my gaugereads 12 volts, and my fuel gauge comes on! I only have three selections on the ignition! Just don't know why. when I hook the power up, with no key, the buzzer comes on, and the key doesn't activate the starter!

Visit the idea that it is a wiring harness issue or you simply have a wire plugged in wrong.

Gotta agree with Elvin... grab your trusty Factory service manual (if you don't have one, get one from any dealer, including me: paul@obersheimersails.com), whip out your good-quality ANALOG volt/ohm meter, review the wiring diagrams, and expect to find a problem in the wiring harness.
