Re: Too all Coosa guys

I plan on doing it from the inside so I'll just re drill the holes from the outer skin. I called both coosa and west. Guess bluewater 26 1.5 has been used by boat manufacturers for transoms for 15 years with no issues. West recommends it as well. For the guys thinking of going this route: Sand both surfaces with 60 grit paper. Wet out both surfaces with unthickend epoxy then mix up epoxy with 403 microfiber filler to the consistency of soft mayo. Apply and clamp. No grassing over required but I will just for good measure.

Will the 1.5 board, w/ or w/out the glass and the exterior transom skin get you to the 2-2.25" transom thickness at the keyhole?

Interesting that these guys ^^^ suggest that you replicate the plywood thickness & ALL the same installation methods (ie: glassing it in) when you use Coosa board:
(from the FAQ link at the page Jig linked)
How do I install Coosa Board?
One does not need to change lamination methods to incorporate Coosa Boards into their application. One simply can install the board as you would plywood or material being replaced using the same methods and tools.

Odd that the Coosa person you talked to suggested that the transom didn't need to be glassed in. It sounds like you plan to anyway, so that's good.

Yes, skin is 1/2", coosa 1 1/2", plus interior layup ~1/8"

I got a 2'x4' chunk of board for $100

Re: Too all Coosa guys

Got the plywood all gutted out. Also removed the planking on the bottom of the hull between the engine mounts. Another crappy factory layup caused the ply to be water/oil logged... The pieces just poped out (2 20x4 strips of ply). Anyways my question is I left the original csm layup around the plywood transom. It sticks out the thickness of the plywood (1.5"). Should I remove this lip and glass in the transom without it or bond the new transom to it and glass over top of it?

Glassing over that "Lip" will not be easy nor yield a very strong laminate, IMHO!!
