Re: Too much HP?

Do you have a model # of the 140??? year???
A 140 Crossflow will be atleast 125-150lbs heavier than the 65 zuki...
The looper 140 will be (guessing) about 175-200lbs heavier.
Don't know alot about that style of boat, but sounds like maybe a 115 would be a good match.

I believe that a 10% variance is considered "acceptable" in the industry.
Taken to the extreem in this 120 vs 130 hp question your 120 could actually be a 132 actual, while the 130 might only be an actual 117.
Does anyone else think that the 10% factor is BS?

Re: Too much HP?

The way I understand it, and I thought the same as you on the 10%, but it appears as though the 10% rule is like this: a 120HP engine has 10% variation (allowed)10%=12HP, split in half, the engine can produce no more than 126HP, or no less than 114HP. I am told they do it this way because the higher the HP, the more they can gain if they allow the total 10% to be ABOVE the rated HP.
For example, a 225 would actually produce near 250HP if the 10% was allowed in one direction, but it's not, so the most the 225 can produce is about 235HP.

Re: Too much HP?

Walleyhead:
I might have to remove the question mark after the 300hp on my signature!
Thanks. I guess that means my 300 could really "only" range from 285-315, which is much better than I thought!
Plus on the op's question the weight is probably the same on the 120 or 130 hp motor, given it is the same brand.
