Re: too much prop?

Just a quick note. It's a "chine", not a "chime". A chine is the raised edge of fiberglass along the bottom of your hull that helps control water flow and improves handling. A chime is that thing that hangs on the front porch and jingles in the wind.

If you're getting chine walking at 55 you're not set up properly. Listen these guys and they can help.

UFM82

I think what we're seeing is the chinewalking is what's limiting the rpm. It starts to walk and you slow down, or at least don't go any faster. And that's OK. I see you went up some and the handling got better.

Then let's look at the tach. We need to verify it's accurate. If it's always stopping at 5100 something may be wrong with it. What brand tach is it?

Any chance of getting a GPS speed?

Re: too much prop?

The chinewalking went away when I raised the motor, but the holeshot is worse and the boat porpuses (sp) when slowing down. the tach is a quicksilver from the factory I believe. How could I test the tach to see if it is accurate? I have a friend that has a handheld GPS, my humingbird fishfinder says I am going 74, the speedo says around 55. Ron G recommended a 1/2 rise, but I only took 1/4 the first time. My anti-captivation plate is now 8 1/4" above the bottom of the boat.

By the way, not sure if it makes a difference. The gentleman I purchased the boat from removed the anode/trim tab. Is this something I should put back on the boat?

Like dale said check your tac.and are you blowing out when you take off?Hows your water prassure holding should still be real good with a lowwater pickup.

Re: too much prop?

Went out the other day by myself. Hole shot is pretty good. Motor revs to 5000 pretty fast. As I trim the motor up, the bow begins to lift, and then things get really scary. So I back out. Is there any way to test this tach? I am still only getting 5000 or raise the engine more?

TIA
