Ok here is what i have. 888 /302. Last year noticed that i lost power or completely quit after adding throttle....thought that my advance wasnt working and did infact find out that the distributor springs and weights were rusted out.
Ok this year.. replaced with another distributor...fired right up....timed idle at 10 deg btdc but did notice that it kinda wanted to stall out if i lowered the idle much below aabout 700. The addvance on the distributor worked fine. So i brought it out on the water...and this is what i noticed..
Idled rough but after some coaxing we coasted out at around 20 mph ..around 2500 rpm and seemed to have enough for more. Ran 20 min like that and stopped for lunch. Anchored up 30 min later...hard to start. Wanted to stall. Definite smell of gas (ran the blower a lot) couldnt get the rpm above 1500 before wanting t cut out. Smell of gas while running. It did pick up rpm when i backed off on the throttle. Idled ok but a little rough. Could only coast home at about 1500 rpm with a gassy smell.
So...am i looking at something simple here? I have the 888 manual but i want some expertise. Oh btw i am not burning oil...new plugs...wires...cap rotor etc.
