i got in an accident yesterday. i was comming into our parking lot at our shop probably going a little bit too fast (about 15mph) and our shop is in a industrial area and low on the list of streets to get plowed. by the time it does all the snow is packed into ice and the plow dosent do much good. well i was lightly breaking comming into the turn and the front of the truck started to push so i took my foot off the breaks and still kept going straight. i then slamed right into a teliphone poll breaking it. as im sitting in the truck i see my bug defelcor on the front warped im expecting to start seeing anti freeze and steam comming out the hood any second. well as im cursing out loud i go to back up away from the poll and i cant get any traction to go backwards so i put it in 4wd and pulled away from the poll firt thing i see is the poll laying at an 45degree angle and now im realy cursing i look at the front of my truck and im amazed at the lack of damage my bumper was pushed back a couple inches on the drivers side and the grill gard broke the bug deflector and a little crack in the grill. my truck still drives perfect other than i need to get the bumper pulled out a little as the tire bearly rubs the bumper when making a right hand turn. ill start looking for new parts soon. i dont think theres enough damage to warrent turning my damages into the insurance company seems how they are already paying for a new teliphone poll i dont need to give them an excuse to jack my rates up any more anywhaz. and i can probably fix it all for less than my 500 dollar deductable.

in this pictrue you can see the bumper pushed back

in this picture you can see a small dent in the hood that will be coverd when i install a new bug refletor

the crack it put in the grill

not to bad considering i snapped a telephone poll still sucks but im amazed how the truck held up

I would bet that the repairs to the truck are closer to $1000 based on body shop rates..... new bumper, grill, grill guard, hood repair and blend..... I would not be surpised.

You are lucky the pole did not take you out.

Re: took out a teliphone poll

yer lucky ya had one of them big aftermarket bumpers..... grill gaurd or whatever they're called. they seem pretty rugged.... talked to one of my realtor customers the other day. he took out a caddy with his truck that had a grill gaurd on it. didn't even scratch his truck..... which is more than he could say about the wasted back of the caddy....

i was in an accident many years ago.... a ltd wagon smashed into a mid 70s pickup.... the pickup smashed his grill gaurd into my poor little datsun.... shortened it up by a good foot and a half...... the pick up was unscathed...... short of the dude driving got took to the hospital for whiplash.....

moral of my story is.... with yer grill gaurd, ya need to tangle with cars, not trees.....;). i've done a couple trees myself over the years. they've always have won... glad ya wasn't hurt man.....

Re: took out a teliphone poll

$500 deductible? The telephone company will replace that pole on a Sunday - 3 guys @ double time.
If you don't want that $7500 bill I suggest you delete all posts about the story with pics of your truck

that part of it is covered under my liability insurance, no deductable and they will cover it, as far as to have my insurance fix my truck i have to pay a deductable. i can probably get all the parts i would need for a couple hundrid bucks. ill still get a few quotes from body shops to see if they notice anything i dident and also its not like no one knows i hit the poll i called the cops and reported it, its been reported to my insurance company, the police have a report of it, how is posting this topic going to change anything

Re: took out a teliphone poll

the cop asked the utility guy what the estimated damage was and the power company said, around 3000 about 1000 for the poll and 2000 for labor

If they would put all those lines underground, where they belong, that wouldn't happen.

Re: took out a teliphone poll

I hit a pole at 70+,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the pole won. No insurance,,,,,,,,out of my pocket including a 1970 Triumph GT6+,,,,,,,,,$10,000,,,,,,Thankfully there was no medical bills.( happened years ago when testosterone levels were very high)

I think I would have had my 4x locked in, that may have helped getting stopped. To me 4x's are worse on slippery surfaces than a regular 2 wheel drive truck. Just live and learn,,,,,,I learned to slow down,,,life is too precious to race through it. Good luck on getting things taken care of.

im sure it would have helped had i had the 4x4 locked in but the problem comes in trying to slow or change the direction of an 7500lb vheical on a slick ice, fresh snow the truck handels excelent but get it on nice smooth ice its another story

Re: took out a teliphone poll

Glad your OK. Get the truck checked out. It may have knocked it out of alignment. Could have even damaged the frame I doubt it though. I need to get one of those grill guards. Expect your insurance to go way up.

I'm not trying to be a as* but, in the title of this thread you spelled telephone wrong. You really spelled pole wrong too. If you took out a telephone poll that means you called up a bunch of people and asked them questions on some subject like politics or religion. (In that case you couldn't put the results on this forum anyway.) Maybe you have brain damage and should sue the telephone company. jk :D

It's a good thing you weren't driving a sub compact car. Someone here wants to get one for there daughter. Now maybe he understands why I think that a bad idea.

Anyway glad your OK .

That would be such a pain for everyone! If the lines were underground it would cost so much to maintain. It would be so hard to do a lot of things like that. It would look better not having power lines on poles and such but man o man would that be so expensive to maintain.

Re: took out a teliphone poll

I hit a pole when I was 16 in my moms LTD. It put a crack all the way up the side. I was only 3 blocks from the house. I got out of the car (it was totaled and she had only had it for 5 days) and walked home. Mom was on the phone with elec company when I walked in backdoor. She didn't beleive me till I said "Well why do you think the powers out and it immedietely made sense to her. Never had to pay for the pole as a week later a big truck hit it too. It was all forgotten about by cops/elec comp/everyone.

Re: took out a teliphone poll

Did the cop that showed up gave you a ticket for "unsafe speed"? Years ago, I was driving down an ice covered curve and slid into a tree. Damaged the hood and bumper a little. As the tow truck was pulling me out, a sheriff just happened to drove by. The b..t.rd got out and wrote me a ticket for unsafe speed.
