It came out better then expected considering this was my first attempt at building a bench.

I plan to paint the base white with a "distressed" look.

It looks good!

... but doesn't look very sturdy to me. You need some bracing on the legs and some gussets on your butt joints.

It should be fine if no one sits on it.

it actually has a lot of bracing, its just hidden.

the legs each have 3in L brackets holding them. the brace that goes across under the seat has triangle wedges supporting it. and i added a cross brace across the rear legs.

plus everything is toe screwed with 2.5in screws.

I may add something to support the backrest. it is notched and has the screws in it, but i may add something.

Looks good, beason. I would continue that cross brace (between the rear legs) all the way around, sides and front, too. It'll be solid as a rock; and stay that way.

You did some nice, clean looking work. Great repurposing of otherwise discarded items.
