1983 150hp.blackmax when I try to run my boat it acts like it wants to run but when I give it more than half throttle it it starts and stops to run on all 6cyl. Is it the stador high speed windings gone bad????

Re: Top end problems

Welcome to the forum. Only testing it will tell. It can cause the symptom you described, but so can a dirty carb, fouled plug, defective switchbox, defective coil, or a bad connection to any of those components. I wish I could narrow it down for you, but I can't. IUt will take a good volt/ohmemter and the shop manual. You can start with the plugs. Thier condition can usually do more at explaining what the cylinder it came from is doing, than even the book can.

paitsel

Had the same problem with my 1985 Merc 150 Black Max two days ago. Aside from all the things 12Footer mentioned, I would throw in bad gas. Mine had water in it. Boat would crank and idle fine, even fast troll. As Soon as I hit the throttle it would bog down. Cleaned out the bad gas and tried again, ran about 60mph near as I can tell.... haven't installed speedo yet.

I have cleaned the carbs, changed the plugs ,number one wasn't firing enough to even check timing .put in new rear switchbox . motor timed, peplaced a couple bad wires.
but still have this problem.
I was going about 60 when the horn went off for high temp.
I found stuff in the carbs. But when I went out next time . at full speed it started to slow down
and misfire and here I am ?
