Im just about done pulling and drying most of the old foam out. Looking to refill. Whats are some cost effective ways to refill with foam in the top of the gunwale where the rod holders go. Boat is listed below.
Will the Great Stuff you get at lowes and home depot work?

Great Stuff is supposedly closed cell, which is what you want.

I did this with the great stuff foam.

I trimmed it down then coated it a waterproofing paint .
I did an exspearament using the old 40 yr old foam and some great stuff . Let them soak for over a month and the great stuff had less water seep in than the old foam . It also floated much better. I,m sure the new type foam is way better then the 40 yr old stuff.
Don,t know how long it will last but it was better than what was there...

Re: Top of the Gunwale foam options???

im assuming pretty buoyant right?

You mean "if the boat was swamped .. will this foam keep my boat afloat ?" .. depending on how much floatation foam you have in your boat it will help sure. But is it a defininate 'No it wont sink' .. nobody can tell ya unless All the calculations have been given ( Wt. VS. encapsulated Air ).

However .. if your not talking about all that .. then sure spray that stuff up there ( for whatever other reason ).

I would not use it exclusively for floatation reasons..
