I'm looking at a 2000 Bayliner 2050 Capri LX with a 5.0 Mercruiser and the current owner says to boat tops out at 62 MPH with a 4 blade stainless steel prop.
That sounds a bit fast to me. What do you guys think?
That does sound a bit optimistic, my geuss would be it was on a pitot speedo rather than a gps so the boat may tell him it is going that fast but really isn't.
If you are thinking of buying the boat you should run it anyhow then you can see for yourself.
Take a handheld GPS with you, in the real world it'll be lucky to hit 50. You can go to Boatetst.com and check comparable boats. The 20' Bayliner bowrider they tested with a 5.0 topped out at 50.2 MPH.
I'll definitely test drive it first. I just wanted to check with you guys and see if you were thinking the same thing I was about the top speed. I'm not all that concerned about the top speed I just thought that sounded a bit off. Sounds like they boat on a river so maybe that was going down stream .
Could be right!! I get about 50mph with 4.3L same boat as yours, she's not what you would call a heavy boat, 20', 8 man boat. She is plenty fast with a 19p prop too.
I think we could make an algebra word problem out of this with the river current. My thought is there is no way that thing goes 60 with a 4 blade unless it is an mpi. I got my boat going 52 on gps on our last vacation with an unusually light load, me and my oldest boy and now I will tell you it is a 52mph boat if you ask.
